A long-term military contract afforded us the opportunity to design, fabricate and test these mud treading assemblies.
When laid across a muddy or boggy stretch of land, it allows tanks and other heavy machinery to cross.
Treading surface is made from surplus pierced steel plank (PSP) originally used to make aircraft landing strips during WWII.
There are 5 sections per completed assembly. Each section is made of 2 halves designed to be bolted together using heavy duty pipe flanges and grade 8 bolts.
Sections are held together using 36,000 lb WLL hammerlocks.
The assembly is designed to be stored and transported folded accordion style. To deploy, each end is affixed to 3/4" grade 80 chain, attached to 2 tanks, and pulled apart until unfolded to full length.
Each complete assembly weighs about 6,000 lbs. The lifting test was performed to test the welds and rigging to 200%.
